I started this blog back at the start of 2018 (6.5 years ago!) as a means of expression and an outlet. In no way have I ever intended for any monetary or fame gain to come from anything I put here. In fact, there are times where I post so infrequently, it seems as though I’ve died! Yet, I putter on through life, and now, after much adversity and stop-start moments, I feel adequately prepared to give my all.
But, boy, life is a turbulent whirlwind with many twists and turns, isn’t it? The amount of obstacles people endure is simply incredible, but no obstacle is greater than knowing the self and the identity of one. It transpires, after many years of discussion and throwing ideas against a wall, myself and my Fiancée decided it would be best for me to truly embrace who I am.
Of course, the only major change in my life is affirming who I am in terms of identity – this being my actual name. For most of my life, I was using a name which brought me ridicule and caused me much grief. I fell into deep depressions at times, and oftentimes contemplated suicide. Yet, I held on. I carried myself through the hard times because I knew, deep down, there is a silver lining to every cloud. My silver lining has come after almost thirty years on this world.
I intend for my posts to become more frequent, or as frequent as my ideas let me. I am not afraid to showcase who I am, and with my new rebrand, I am proud to introduce and welcome you into my creative space, consisting of the following spaces, all conveniently located on this website.
- Fenrir’s Lair: This is the landing page where you now find yourself. The name makes sense once you get toward the end of this post. This is my home. This will contain my creative endeavours, under the official Fenrir’s Library subpage, and my real-life endeavours in the world of powerlifting as Fenrir’s Gym. Over time, these will paint a vivid picture of the process I use when it comes to my life and how I create.
- Kulvaan Publications: This is the handle used for any writing I do. This is not a publicly accessible space, but rather a consolidation of my writing endeavours. The name comes from the first continent I introduce people to in my fantasy saga, The Elder Ones. In this space, I serve as the writer, the editor, the artist, and public relations. As such, you will notice anything I put out has no outside influence. As such, errors will pop up. I aim to fix these as soon as I am made aware or spot them on my occasional re-reads of my own works.
As far as the entire rebranding goes? Fenrir’s Lair has come about due to me officially and legally changing my name. I have already begun the process of retroactively applying my new name to my works, and this is what has prompted me to become more active.
I, Fenrir Van Gageldonk, welcome you into my home. Stay a while. Pull up a chair. Sit by the hearth. Listen close, for there are stories to tell. There is merriment to be had. Laugh, cry, mourn.
This is as much your space as it is mine.
Fenrir's Lair
