Yes, this is a cryptic title, but I will start by saying it does not have any negative connotations. Far from it. In fact, it is an idea I have. One that I am in the process of finalising even as I write this now.
I will start by saying that Crusader is going to be an experimental project for me. In fact, so experimental, I might never do it again. See, I intend for Crusader to be something of a serial novel. What that essentially means is that I will release the chapters as they are written. A raw, unfiltered writing style from me.
But what IS Crusader?
The short answer is given in the title – the story of a crusader in the Third Crusade (1189-1192).
But, as is the case with much of what I write, there is much more to that than the surface level. For instance, the titular character is a veteran of the Second Crusade, and thus this turns the story itself into one focusing on redemption. Cliché it may be, but as my modus operandi proves, the entire story will (or should) challenge the very essence of how people perceive this period in time. That means no stone will remain untouched. If it means I describe literal shit (The Crusades were during the height of THE DUNG AGES, after all), then I will do just that.
I admit, Crusader will not be to the liking of everyone. After all, people read books as an escape mechanism. A way to de-stress from their own lives. The joy of Crusader does in fact come from its setting. History is a beautiful thing and I for one thoroughly enjoy learning all I can about the past.
In a sense, I guess that makes Crusader my love letter both to and from the period setting. I wish I had more details to give, but right now, I am still going through the minute details of the story. Yet… you needn’t wait too long. I promise Crusader will release before 2020 arrives.
