The home stretch of Reality is within reach. While I struggle sometimes at the end of a novel as I did today, I realise what is important and what is not. I want to make Reality the best it can be and the best way to do that is hold nothing back from this point. I admit I am usually a reserved writer, but there are moments when I need to do something that stands out. I feel I have done that.
Sure, I will face criticism over what I wrote today for either over-sexualisation or misrepresentation, but I don’t see either of those scenarios. The entire purpose of Reality is building toward the major plot twist in the end. At that point, everything will make sense to the reader.

- What I Did Today
The work for today was all about the slow build toward the climax. What it essentially boils down to is Max Parker receiving criticism from her sister about her look. The work, at least to me, is a representation of two different types of thought. The first is the “perfect look.” This is a heavy factor in the events of the climax as it directly correlates to the words that Lisa Parker speaks. Lisa tells Max that she needs to embrace who she is, yet then pretty much forces the “Perfect Look” onto Max. Whether or not it is a cheap way to build tension is up for debate, but it works.
- Today’s Best Work
The best work for today shows the reader a different side of Lisa than the rest of the novel presents. It continues to build to the climax, as this is provides another reason why the reader needs to pay close attention throughout the entirety of Reality.
“You done yet, Max? Don’t really want to waste more time than what we’ve already lost.”
“I think I’m ready. Unless you find something else wrong with my look. I never knew you were so adamant about the way people dressed.”
Lisa turned around to respond but she froze as she lay her eyes on me. A smile crossed her face and she let out a low whistle. That made me blush. It was stupid for me to get any kind of enjoyment from my sister, but something inside my brain was different. I relished the compliments of anyone.
“That’s what I call a good look, Max. You got your keys? Good, cause you’re driving. Let’s go,” Lisa said.
My sister pushed me out the door without giving me a chance to respond. The heat let me right away why Lisa decided to clothe me the way she did. Though it was still winter, there was an unusual region of hot weather rolling through Australia. It drove the temperatures well about the winter average. I could not complain. I enjoyed the warmer weather.
I unlocked the Impala and Lisa was quick to throw herself into the passenger seat. The entire vehicle bounced with her impact. I rolled my eyes and sat down in my seat.
“So where are we going? At least tell me that before we start to move. I think you owe me that much,” I said.
“A lady should never reveal her secrets, Max. Thank fuck I’m not a lady otherwise I’d never get anywhere in life. There’s a couple of good goth stores a short distance out of town. I think we’ll find the perfect clothes for you there. So start the engine and let’s roll,” Lisa replied.
Her answer baffled me. Even after hearing Lisa and her band play, I had no idea what sort of music they specialised in performing. Some of their numbers were metal, some were soft rock and others yet involved heavy amounts of rap! I hoped that I would not have to perform anything close to a rap the night of the gig. I would embarrass myself if I had to do so.
- How Productive I Felt I Was
The home plate is in sight, so that always provides a boost to the confidence of a writer. It also puts a lot of pressure on me to deliver utter perfection and to wrap up the events of the novel. I am confident I can do that, even if it takes me a little longer than I anticipate. I will see this through to the end, and Reality is something I will be proud of having completed after three years of seeing it on the shelf.
- What I Intend To Write Next Week
It’s hard to explain what I will do next week for Reality. Yes, I will keep building toward the climax, but anything I say here will really spoil what I have planned. That is why I have made an executive decision to withhold any further information about Reality until it is finished. Who knows, next week might introduce another project of mine?
