Saturday 7 April Progress Report (Previous Report)
Reality continues on its advancement toward the end of its story. I admit that this week was done on a very tight schedule of less than four hours, but I also did not plan on spending a day out of town at a rodeo. That was a fun experience for me though. It is rare for me to say I enjoyed going “country” for a day, but then I look back to where I live. Canberra, Australia is not the “Bush Capital” for no reason. Of course, outside of the city limits, the level of country increases in exponential fashion the smaller the town.
The fact I was out for most of the day put a lot of strain on my writing goal, but I did manage to push through and leap toward the end with something that made me extremely happy to have written.
Where My Word Count Should Be: 50,000 words
Where My Word Count Is: 50,034 words
- What I Did Today
Today involved Max Taylor facing issues from his father, Max Parker and his own personal life. I made sure that Max Taylor found out that his father knew all about his criminal past, while his relationship with Max Parker continues to deteriorate as he makes continual missteps. The reader also learned the truth behind the accident – the accident that Max Taylor caused, though in very vague terms.
- The Best Sample From Today
The best sample is not a spoken piece of dialogue, but rather a text message from Max Parker to Max Taylor in response to recent events involving the two of them. It is an emotionally charged segment and it is one of the best examples of character development in my novels.
I don’t know why you deserve a chance to explain yourself. It’s weird how these things work, but for some reason, I can’t seem to get you out of my mind. No, it’s not about the way you look, though that does play a factor. I guess it’s more about curiosity. Something about your smug nature and the blasé way you treated me this morning makes me want to find out what was going through your head. So I do want to find out what you have to say for yourself. I won’t give you long though. I’m playing with my sister’s band tonight. I’m sure you’ll find out the location, so I won’t bother telling you. I can spare five minutes in the middle of the show. Be there. Or don’t. I don’t fucking care.
Since the events of the novel are all coming to a head, I intend for the confrontation to be the climax of the novel. All the main characters will be present in the same place at the same time. The way that Max Parker does not even address Max Taylor by name plays a key factor in determining her mindset.
I find the best segments are written in the midst of a fit of passion. It reasons that I summoned (or tried to summon) the same spirit that allowed me to write the best sample of Eden for this week. I do not feel I was as successful this go around, but that is expected. The odds of being struck by lightning twice in the same week are higher than writing two excellent sequences in the same week.
- How Productive I Felt I Was
The work for today leads right into the climax of the novel. I have a very rough idea of how the final 20,000 or so words will pan out, so I feel very proud of how productive I remain as I approach a definite ending for my second novel. I hope that my reader appreciates it as much as I do.
Reality is right on track to a Q4 2018 release. That drives me to polish the novel once I have the entire story down so that it does not come with the same mistakes that slipped into Sea Spray’s first edition (which has since seen a major revision, with another revision expected mid August). I am proud to think of Reality as my second major release.
- What I Intend To Write Next Week
I will keep this short this week as I intend to inform everyone of what I intend to do for Week Eleven TOMORROW. Keep your minds creative and put those pens onto paper.
