  • Overview

For some reason, a lot of doubt entered my mind today and I thought I would not be able to meet my word goal for today, which would be devastating to not only my mindset, but it would ruin everything I have worked for these past seven weeks.

Thankfully, I managed to meet my word goal and I must say, I was more than impressed with the results I got from my odd pace for today. Something about today was quite different to what I normally do. This week is shaping up to be a week of cautious world-building. I do not mean cautious in that I am not taking risks; it’s quite the opposite in fact. My caution is one of the biggest risks I am taking, but it paid off in the work for Ascension yesterday and I feel I am doing something truly unique. I could be wrong, but it is unique for me in any case.

  • What I Did Today

The work for today involved some unique character building. It was the first time I could look at Ashley from the perspective of someone else. I can show quirks of her character that Ashley censors in her chapters so that the reader knows not to trust her words alone. It fits the theme of Noir storytelling while also bringing in a second element that allows the reader to make their own assumptions about who is in the right.

  • The Best Sample From Today

The best work from today is something I have thought of doing for quite some time. It might not be my usual shtick and how I would prefer to be more contrived and artsy with my words. I decided to write it as I envisioned it. Simple and sweet.

Ash seemed to mellow out as she hoisted herself to sit on the car. She held her left thigh and I recognized it as the one I saw her limping on. I got my first look at the real Ash in the dull moonlight. I saw she had a fine layer of glittering eyeshadow that made her eyes seem more sympathetic than what they were. The proportions of Ash’s face were in a harmonious balance. Her nose was more feminine than I thought it would be. I could not help but smile at how beautiful Ash was from this angle.

The paragraph again uses Isabelle Ramirez’ voice, but this time it gives insight into both Ashley and Isabelle. By utilising the descriptive tense to make something mundane seem magical is quite difficult to pull off, but when it is done right, it is a glorious feeling and I look forward to working this skill into my other novels in sparing fashion.

The paragraph goes against the grim atmosphere of Crow and showcases a tender side of things. It is quite different to what I wrote last week, but also builds from that. I like to showcase several elements and variations to the story instead of relying on a single technique for each chapter. That is part of the reason I love writing: I can experiment and play with storytelling techniques to adapt my skills to better suit the world of novels.

  • How Productive I Felt I Was

For this week, productivity is quite high for me, if I base it on time spent writing vs word output. However, my productivity is a relative thing and it is not something I can really understand. I feel the work I did today was of a high enough quality to call today a raging success in the grand scheme of things.

I continued to build the dynamic between the trio of characters but I did not neglect the all important character building that I have always had issue with. I feel I get better at that every step I make in my novels.

  • What I Intend To Write Next Week

Next week looks to build up more about Crow Enterprises as a whole and their antagonistic ways toward the main characters. I fully intend to set the seeds for an intimate session between Ashley and Isabelle at some stage. Their relationship is a complicated one and I intend to show it as an unrequited love scenario in the end.

Like, share and follow my blog for more or less of the same, but that’s what you get from me. You know I am a writer, and you will get writing stuff from me.
